Brain Aging? 5 Hallmarks and How to Counteract Them

The brain is a delicate organ, and as we get older it’s important to take care of it. While some people age more quickly than others—which is largely driven by genetics—there are things we all can do to help our brains stay healthy. In this post we’ll explain what brain aging is and what its hallmarks look like so that we can together develop a plan for keeping our brains healthy and working well into our golden years. The hallmarks of brain-aging are:

1.Slower information processing resulting in slower reaction times, reduced ability to multitask, and difficulties in adapting to new situations

2.Decreased brain volume, loss of neurons and shrinking of brain tissue

3.Increased oxidative stress and inflammation, leading to the accumulation of damaging proteins called beta amyloid plaques, tau tangles, and neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs). These structures can damage neurons’ ability to send signals between each other

4.Decline in blood flow and glucose metabolism throughout the brain–especially in regions involved with memory formation and recall

5.Increased susceptibility to cognitive impairment. Older adults may be more vulnerable to the effects of certain medications, alcohol, and other substances on cognitive function. Additionally, they may be more susceptible to the impact of environmental factors and stress on brain health.

You can take steps today to help keep your brain healthy and working well in the future by:

💙Addressing Vitamin Deficiencies

Brain function is dependent on the interplay of many vitamins and micronutrients. Deficiencies for them can lead to neurological dysfunction. Certain multivitamins deliver your minimum daily needs. Multi-resveratrol goes beyond this. It delivers what you need to maintain good health and contains Chlorella, which provides all the trace elements required by humans. It also contains Resveratrol, one of the rising antioxidant stars.

💙Eating a Healthy Diet

Did you know the brain is literally made up of substances like Omega 3? Omega 3 has been the target of numerous ongoing studies in brain health and mental health. Eating foods that contain omega-3 fatty acids may also help protect the brain from age-related decline in memory and thinking skills (1).

Omega Gen V for the win! A source of omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA) and CoQ10 for the maintenance of heart and brain function*; source of antioxidants from Vitamin E.*Heart, brain, and health support. Now, more robust with 33% more EPA fish oil. Designed for maximum bioavailability.

💙Consuming Immunocal for its Patented Neuroprotective Advantages

✍️ A Breakthrough in Autism Research: The Role of Immunocal Explained

Nova Southeastern University in Florida, conducted a study that evaluated the effects of our unique cysteine-rich whey protein isolate formulation (Immunocal®) on pre-school children with autism, and the results were nothing short of groundbreaking.

The study enrolled 60 subjects, with 20 randomly assigned to treatment with Immunocal for three months, and 20 assigned to a control group receiving rice protein. Core areas of autistic behavior were assessed before and after treatment, including atypical behaviors, communication, developmental status, and behavioral problems. Blood glutathione levels were also quantified before and after treatment. The results showed that children receiving Immunocal demonstrated significant improvements in their behavioral function compared to the control group. Blood glutathione levels were also found to be increased in the Immunocal group.  PMCID: PMC8514994 Patent application number: 16/634,946

It’s important to note that while these hallmarks are commonly observed in aging brains, they do not necessarily indicate the presence of a cognitive disorder or dementia. Many individuals maintain good cognitive function throughout their lives, and adopting a healthy lifestyle, engaging in mental stimulation, and staying socially active can help promote brain health as one ages.
